The Tide of Debris (20-June-2008)

This day proved to be a long and interesting day in the war against SYM for B57. As the day began, they still had a large number of ships with free-reign over much of our territory, but by the end of the day they were gone, with naught but echoes to tell their passing... echoes, and debris.

The war came to my research base Šåηå₫гîå at just 23 minutes after midnight on the beginning of the 20th. Grogmir landed 264 heavy cruisers on my small garrison and overwhelmed the base in one move. But that was only the beginning of the fighting there. For the next 9 hours we played a deadly game of cat & mouse with their fleets in the Šåηå₫гîåη system, and with each engagement the debris field grew even larger. After the initial battle, Grogmir brought in 1726 recyclers to clean the debris in one tick and move out. But before he could get any, aledujke swept in with a corvette fleet and blew away nearly 1300 of his recyclers, as well as other ships there. Grogmir retalliated by bringing in more ships, and he and aledujke fought round and round across all the planets and moons of the system, spreading debris in their wake as they went. He finally caught aledujke's corvettes at 12:32am and destroyed them. The next few hours were a sort of standoff, with neither side being able to approach the massive debris pile without the other side showing up in large numbers. By 9:30 that morning, YukiKashimaru had arrived with a dreadnaught, 2000 corvettes, and many recyclers. He managed to get over 20k credits of the debris, before Grogmir hit him. They fought back and forth over the pile for a short time, then YukiKashimaru swiped the last of it up and scooted out before more SYM fleets could arrive to knock him off. Finally both sides pulled out, leaving me to clean up Šåηå₫гîå and rebuild...

Sparse skirmishes took place during the rest of the day, but nothing major until evening. It was then that the tide of the war turned significantly in our favor. Up til that point SYM had been on the offensive, inefficient, but on the offensive nonetheless. After 9pm (server time) their ability to launch significant offensive strikes in B57 was pretty much null. It began around 6:30pm, when we began putting a plan together to strike their LZ at Rickenbacker. I sent in some corvettes ahead of the group to take out a fleet of Wröng's scouts. Incapable of sending sufficient fleet to assist in the main battle, I pulled out after that.

At a few minutes after 9pm (server time), aledujke landed a huge fleet at Rickenbacker and proceeded to take out the last SYM fleet of significance still there: the 1mil+ fleet belonging to oj. In a series of fighter and heavy bomber drops, he took out most of the support ships and then finished off the Titans with a cruiser/heavy cruiser force. When the dust settled, there was over 1.2mil credits in debris at Rickenbacker, making the pile at Šåηå₫гîå pale in comparison. Finally it was over. The invasion had been repelled, and the invaders had retreated among heavy losses. MI5 had weathered the storm... so far.

What will be in the days to come? Unknown. While SYM is home licking their wounds, it falls to us to decide on our next move. Will we make peace? Will we strike back while they're weak? Or will we wait? Only time will tell, and tell it will. For this is a game of warfare, and only the strong will survive. MI5 has passed its first test, a test of unity and determination. I can only guess as to what future tests may hold, but one thing is certain: If we stand together, we can weather any storm. Long live the Commonwealth! Long live Spooks!

Day One 19-June-2008 (Server Time)

Madness. To some it would seem like sheer madness, MI5 (a split off training guild of CW) standing alone in B57, waiting for a firestorm of SYM forces to wash over us. But what choice had we? Not two months earlier, we watched as an alliance of GOONs invaded the heart of CW territory in neighboring B56. Now it was finally our turn. Only this time it wasn't GOONs invading. No, they had their hands full with the server-wide war against RAGE. Rather this time it was SYM, a typically neutral guild, that was hitting us. Why?

It's a hard question, answering to the motives of an enemy guild. They claim their attack on us was in retaliation of our hits on their members in B55 and B57 the previous week. Though at first this answer seemed reasonable, they since expanded their hits to include members of MI5 not involved in previous conflicts, thus proving they were out for more blood than simple revenge could offer.

The first strikes against MI5 came toward the end of the 18th (server time), and were directed against Cecil and Dannyin B55. What exactly Cecil or Danny had done to warrant their wrath, if indeed they had done anything, is still a mystery. But for over 4 hours they bore the brunt of their hits, collectively losing 8 bases. There was a great deal of fighting back for them, and SYM lost many hundreds of thousands in fleet during that time. But as of 9:30 PM server time today, SYM is still holding much of what they took in B55...

Following their hits in B55, they began moving fleets up to B57 at a rendezvous point in region 74 (B57:74:41:41), in the lower latitudes of the galaxy. Dziii hosted the gathering fleets at his JG base there, and among those that came to hit us were: oj, ghostdog, Wröng, Orsos, Fuzzy Bunny, Pinto, obscurity, and Grogmir. During the course of the 19th, from the wee hours of the morning on, they spread out and began hitting MI5 bases throughout B57. My own bases: Ðægîš Mîηεš and Šγητħîςå were the first to fall in B57. obscurity landed his strike fleet there at 6:26 am (server time), and for the next half hour managed to hold them. His attacks were inefficient, especially against my newly built Prings at Ðægîš Mîηεš, however his force was sufficiently large enough to steam roll over them and take the base anyway.

His victory was short lived, however, because as soon as I saw the situation, I posted it, and aledujke, the Guardian Angel of B57, came immediately to my rescue with over 1 million in fleet. He very efficiently disposed of obscurity's entire occupying force and freed my bases.

A few hours later, however, Fuzzy Bunny hit Commander Thor at Orilla, taking the base, then moving on to hit him at Keb and Tegalus, taking both of those bases, but only managing to hold them for a short time.

Meanwhile, some battles sprang up in B36 with a few SYM forces hitting Bowtie Bob (BCL) at some of his bases. Reasoning for these hits remains unknown, along with what they hoped to accomplish, considering their inefficient strikes, and Bowtie Bob's quick liberation of his bases.

The next few hours in B57 were spent by us hitting SYM scouts as they spread out like roaches in all regions of the galaxy. At just before 9pm (server time) I sent a fleet of 400 Corvettes straight into the SYM rendezvous base and destroyed a whole load of Fuzzy Bunny's scouts and recyclers, which he must have assumed would be safe there with so many other SYM fleets to protect them. I proved that to be incorrect.

Just a few minutes later, however, oj landed a large force on my primary production base Çεгµš, destroying my fighter garrison and taking the base. It was an inefficient hit, as he lost more than he gained in pillage and debris collect, but it was a hit nonetheless. As I write this now, I am waiting for my fleet to arrive from Ðægîš Mîηεš so I can dispose of the garrison he left and liberate the base. It is just after 10pm (server time), and the war rages on...
